Kuo: iPhone 16 Pro Max to Feature Battery with 5-10% Higher Cell Density Thanks to Stainless Steel Case

Recently, we reported that Apple plans to make iPhone batteries easier to replace to comply with new EU regulations. Instead of using adhesive pull tabs to hold the battery in place, Apple will switch to a metal cradle that releases the battery when given an electric jolt. This method is known as electrically induced adhesive debonding.

Now, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Apple will use a stainless steel case for the battery to make it easier to remove. This change will also increase the battery cell density by 5-10%, while still meeting safety standards. As a result, users can expect better battery life.

Kuo identified Sunway as the supplier of the stainless steel battery cases, making them a significant beneficiary of this new Apple initiative.

Kuo also speculates that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the first model to feature this new battery casing.

The EU has mandated that by 2025, smartphone batteries must be user-replaceable, which means all phones will eventually adopt this easier battery replacement method.
