‘Maybe when we land in India…’: Suryakumar Yadav gets emotional after T20 World Cup victory - Watch

NEW DELHI: The saying “catches win matches” proved true when Suryakumar Yadav’s incredible catch in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa helped India clinch the trophy. The final match in Barbados was extremely tense on Saturday. In the last over, with South Africa needing 16 runs to win, Hardik Pandya bowled a low full toss to David Miller. Miller hit the ball hard, and it seemed like it would go over the boundary. However, Suryakumar Yadav ran to his left and made an amazing catch. He juggled the ball as he was about to step over the boundary line, but managed to throw it back in, then came back into the field and completed the catch. This crucial moment helped India win by 7 runs, ending their 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) shared a video on its official X handle on Tuesday, showing an emotional Suryakumar Yadav speaking after the victory in Barbados. In the video, as the team celebrates, Surya, wearing his T20 World Cup medal, says, “I don’t know what to say right now. It’ll take some time, maybe a day or two, to realize what has happened. Maybe when we land in India, we’ll understand it better. Right now, I’m just enjoying the moment with my family around.”

Talking about his wife, Surya adds, “She’s been keeping me very humble since the start of the tournament. We haven’t talked much about it, but we always had in mind that we would bring this (T20 World Cup medal) back home. I’m very happy with it.”

The victorious Indian cricket team is currently stuck in Barbados due to a Category 4 hurricane hitting the Caribbean islands, which has delayed their return home by at least another day.
