Zika Virus Cases Reported in Pune, Total Tally Rises to Six
The Zika virus is spreading in Pune, with two more cases confirmed on Monday. This brings the total number of cases in the city to six. Both new cases involve pregnant women living in Erandwane.
The first Zika cases in Pune were reported by a doctor and his teenage daughter, who also live in Erandwane. After their positive test results, health officials inspected the area and collected samples. On Saturday, it was confirmed that a pregnant woman from Erandwane and a 22-year-old man from Mundhwa had also tested positive for the virus.
Dr. Kalpana Baliwant, a health officer for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), said that out of 25 samples collected, 12 were from Erandwane, including seven from pregnant women. Two of these pregnant women tested positive for Zika. Another 13 samples were collected from Mundhwa, but no pregnant women tested positive there.
Pregnant women infected with Zika are at higher risk, so health officials are conducting special scans for them and increasing surveillance in the affected areas. The spread of the Zika virus in Pune is worrying, and efforts are being made to control the outbreak and prevent more infections.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to take precautions to avoid mosquito bites and watch for any symptoms of Zika. The PMC is working closely with health authorities to track and contain the virus in Pune. They are urging citizens to follow guidelines and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of Zika. The PMC assures that they are closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to control the virus in the city.
