WhatsApp Targets Small Businesses for Its Next Growth Phase in India
A recent report reveals that 70% of surveyed users prefer to connect with local grocery stores via WhatsApp to send shopping lists and place orders. Additionally, 65% of users would rather use the app to get offers and place orders from local restaurants. Furthermore, 80% of users favor using WhatsApp for raising service tickets, managing warranties, or requesting technician visits and spare part replacements.
Garg believes that WhatsApp’s biggest strength in India is its user-friendly interface. In a country where over 70% of the population owns smartphones, many people are still not very tech-savvy.
“There are challenges, especially for older consumers who may find complicated apps difficult to use,” Garg explained. He added that while Meta is not aiming to compete with e-commerce giants, they are working on combining the convenience of online ordering with the simplicity of using WhatsApp.
India’s diverse needs, varying from state to state like Gujarat, Nagaland, Ladakh, and Tamil Nadu, make artificial intelligence crucial, according to Garg. AI will be particularly important for language support.
“AI will revolutionize the way users in rural and semi-urban areas interact with businesses. Even if they can’t text, they can use voice commands, and AI can help understand different languages and regional dialects,” Garg said.
