Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two of India’s cricket legends, ended their T20 International careers on a high note by winning the T20 World Cup. This victory was particularly special as it marked the first time both players lifted the World Cup trophy together. Kohli missed out on the 2007 T20 World Cup win, while Rohit was not part of the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team. However, their long wait ended last Saturday when India narrowly defeated South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. After the win, India’s captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli posed with the trophy, celebrating their achievement with the Indian flag draped over their shoulders.

The two cricketers shared a memorable moment after India’s historic win, holding the T20 World Cup trophy and the Indian flag. Kohli later talked about the iconic photo, revealing that he had asked Rohit to hold the trophy for a while.

“It was a very special moment for him [Rohit] too. His family was there, and his daughter Samaira was on his shoulder. But during the victory lap, I noticed he was behind the whole time. So, I told him to hold the trophy for a bit and take a picture together because our journey has been very long,” Kohli said in a video shared by Star Sports.

In addition, Rohit Sharma expressed his emotions in his first social media post since the T20 World Cup win, which quickly went viral.

Kohli, 35, also reflected on their long careers with the Indian team, where their roles often changed, but their main goal remained the same: the growth of Indian cricket.

“Rohit and I have played together for many years, always giving our best to achieve this for India. Whether as captain or leader, our focus has always been on Indian cricket. That picture is a tribute to Indian cricket,” Kohli added.

Kohli announced his retirement from T20 Internationals during his speech after winning the Player of the Match award in the final, where he scored 76 runs off 59 balls. His crucial innings helped India set a challenging total of 176/7, which the Indian bowlers successfully defended. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma revealed his decision to retire from T20Is during the post-match press conference. Both players ended their T20I careers as the top run-scorers in the format, with Rohit leading with 4231 runs and Kohli close behind with 4188 runs.
