Spain Player Ratings vs Georgia: Rodri Leads the Comeback as Yamal and Williams Shine, Setting Up Euro 2024 Quarter-Final with Germany
Spain faced an early setback but managed to turn things around, thanks to a stellar performance by Manchester City’s Rodri. Luis de la Fuente’s team secured a 4-1 victory over Georgia, advancing to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals where they will meet Germany in what promises to be an exciting match.
In the first 18 minutes of the game in Cologne, Spain dominated possession, holding the ball for nearly 90 percent of the time and constantly pressuring Georgia. However, Georgia struck first when Robin Le Normand accidentally scored an own goal after a dangerous cross from Otar Kakabadze.
Despite Georgia’s threatening counter-attacks, Spain found their rhythm. Rodri equalized with a fantastic shot into the bottom corner just six minutes before halftime.
Georgia’s goalkeeper, Giorgi Mamardashvili, made several impressive saves to keep Spain at bay. But in the 51st minute, Lamine Yamal delivered a perfect cross that Fabian Ruiz headed into the net. Nico Williams then made a brilliant run and scored in the 75th minute, putting the game out of Georgia’s reach. Substitute Dani Olmo added a fourth goal seven minutes before the final whistle.
