IMD Warns of Flash Floods in Karnataka, Issues Alerts for Heavy Rain in Delhi and Maharashtra
IMD Monsoon Update: On Sunday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya on June 30, and for Arunachal Pradesh until July 1. Delhi, which has been experiencing heavy rain following a long heatwave, is also expected to receive very heavy rainfall until July 4. The IMD has issued an orange alert for the national capital.
IMD Rainfall Prediction for South India:
- Rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat over the next five days.
- Rain is also predicted in Maharashtra, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and both North and South Interior Karnataka during the next five days.
- Very heavy rain is likely in Saurashtra and Kutch on July 1, and in the Gujarat region from July 2 to 4.
- Similar conditions are expected in the ghat areas of Maharashtra on July 2 and 4, and in Konkan and Goa on July 2 and 3.
- Very heavy rain is forecasted for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka on June 30 and July 1. Lakshadweep, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana will experience heavy rain on June 30, and Coastal Karnataka from June 30 to July 3.
- Saurashtra and Kutch will see very heavy rain on June 30, and the Gujarat region and Maharashtra on June 30 and July 1.
IMD Rainfall Prediction for North India:
- Heavy rain is very likely in Punjab on June 30, and July 3 and 4.
- Delhi will experience heavy rain from July 1 to 3, and Haryana and Chandigarh on July 4.
- Himachal Pradesh will see heavy rain on July 3 and 4, East Rajasthan from July 2 to 4, and West Madhya Pradesh on June 30 and July 4.
- East Madhya Pradesh will have heavy rain on June 30, and July 3 and 4.
- Very heavy rain is expected in Himachal Pradesh from June 30 to July 2, Uttarakhand from June 30 to July 4, and Punjab on July 1 and 2.
- Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh will experience very heavy rain from June 30 to July 3.
- East Rajasthan will have similar conditions on June 30 and July 1.
IMD Rainfall Prediction for East India:
- Extremely heavy rain is very likely in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya on June 30.
- Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will see very heavy rain on July 1 and 3.
- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will experience similar conditions from June 30 to July 4, and Bihar from June 30 to July 2.
- Odisha will have very heavy rain on June 30, Gangetic West Bengal on June 30 and July 3, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 3 and 5.
- Jharkhand will see heavy rain from June 30 to July 3, Bihar on July 3 and 4, and Chhattisgarh from June 30 to July 4.
IMD Rainfall Prediction for Delhi: The IMD has issued an orange alert for extremely heavy rain in New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, North Delhi, North-East Delhi, North-West Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, South-West Delhi, South-East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, Faridabad, East Delhi, and Ghaziabad from July 1 to 3. Heavy rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected in these areas until July 3. A yellow alert has also been issued for heavy rain on June 30 and July 4 in all parts of Delhi.
