In terms of how the NEET results for 2024 will be calculated, the total marks achievable in the medical entrance exam are 720. The final results are determined based on the final answer key. The marking scheme used for the calculation of the NEET results is as follows:

NEET 2024 marking scheme

For the NEET 2024 marking scheme, each correct answer is awarded +4 marks. Conversely, each incorrect response results in a deduction of 1 mark. Questions that are left unanswered do not affect the total score. The NEET exam pattern’s scoring system allows for the calculation of a raw score. This is done using the following formula:

NEET marks = 4 X total correct answers - 1 X total incorrect answers.

The NEET percentile score, as defined by the NTA for the 2024 NEET results, indicates the number of candidates who have scored either higher or lower than a specific candidate. This percentile is calculated in relation to the highest NEET score, thus indicating a candidate’s position relative to the top scorer and other candidates.

The NTA describes the NEET 2024 percentile rank as “the percentage of scores that fall below a given score in a group.” A specific formula is used to calculate a candidate’s NEET percentile score.

The provisional NEET 2024 answer key is released by the competent authority at neet.nta.nic.in. Candidates can challenge the answer key until the final date. The final NTA NEET 2024 answer key is released on the official website. This answer key allows candidates to estimate their potential NEET 2024 score. The NEET UG 2024 answer key is a reliable resource for candidates to assess their performance in the entrance exam. Candidates can challenge the questions by paying a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 200 per question.

In addition to administering the entrance exam, the NTA is also tasked with creating the NEET UG 2024 merit list for candidates who have chosen the 15% All India Quota. This merit list, used for counselling, is based on the NEET result. The list of qualifying candidates will be sent to the Directorate General of Health Services for seat allocation under the 15% AIQ. The NEET 2024 merit list will be organized by category, based on the category specified during the counselling application process. It will include details such as merit rank, marks, roll number, and percentile. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for providing merit lists to both central and state counselling authorities for the purpose of admissions. These authorities will then release additional merit lists, which will include the NEET state rank 2024, in accordance with their specific guidelines. The state counselling authorities will compile merit lists for candidates who are residents of their respective states.

Tie Breaking Rule

In the event of a tie in the NEET 2024 results, where two or more candidates achieve the same score, a tie-breaking method is employed. This method determines the All India Rank in the NEET 2024 results. The tie-breaking criteria are as follows:

  • Biology Marks: Candidates with higher scores in Biology will be given priority in the NEET 2024 results.
  • Chemistry Marks: If the tie remains, candidates with higher scores in Chemistry will be favored.
  • Fewer Incorrect Marks: If the tie still exists, the candidate with fewer incorrect answers in NEET 2024 will be ranked higher.
  • Age Factor: The age factor was previously used to break ties, but this has been discontinued. However, it will be considered from the second round of NEET counselling.

The validity of the NEET 2024 exam results is limited to the current academic year or one year for admissions to Indian colleges. However, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has extended the validity to three years for admissions to foreign colleges, considering the longer admissions process.

Candidates are advised to download and keep a copy of the NEET 2024 exam results from the official website, neet.nta.nic.in. This result should be kept for at least 90 days from the date of declaration as it will be required during counselling and medical admissions.

The NEET 2024 results can be used for admission to various courses:

  • MBBS and BDS: NEET is the only entrance exam for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in government and private colleges, central universities, and deemed institutes/universities across India, including AIIMS and JIPMER.
  • AYUSH Courses: NEET results are also used for admission to all AYUSH courses offered across India, including Ayurveda (BAMS), Yoga and Naturopathy (BNYS), Unani (BUMS), Siddha (BSMS), and Homeopathy (BHMS).
  • B.V.Sc. and AH Courses: 15% of All India Quota seats in Veterinary colleges offering B.VSc. and AH courses (excluding Jammu & Kashmir) are also based on the NEET UG 2024 result.
  • For pursuing medical and dental courses abroad, qualifying the exam is mandatory. The NEET result for such candidates will be valid for 3 years. After the announcement of the NEET UG 2024 results, what’s next?

Candidates who have successfully passed the NEET exam (excluding those from Jammu & Kashmir) will be eligible to participate in the centralized counselling process conducted by the MCC for the All India Quota. They can register for this centralized NEET Counselling.

For candidates from Jammu and Kashmir who have passed the exam but have chosen not to participate in the All India Quota counselling, they can register for the state counselling process in J&K.
