JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2024
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2024 online. Candidates are required to check the information bulletin to understand the eligibility conditions. The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2024 includes details such as educational qualification, age limit, nationality, marks required, compulsory subjects, and more. Applicants who have appeared for the class 12th or equivalent examination in 2022 or 2023 are eligible for JEE Main 2024 with a minimum aggregate of 75% for general category candidates (65% for SC/ST). There is no age limit for candidates appearing in JEE Main 2024, but there is a limit of three consecutive attempts. If a candidate is found ineligible as per the specified criteria, they will be disqualified from the JEE Main exam. JEE Main Qualifying Exam
- Candidates should have passed the 12th class or equivalent qualifying exam in 2022 or 2023.
- Candidates appearing in the 12th class or equivalent qualifying exams in 2024 can also apply.
JEE Main Age Limit
- There is no age limit for JEE Main. Any student who has passed the 12th class or its equivalent exam in the year 2022, 2023, or appearing in 2024 can apply for the IIT entrance exam eligibility criteria.
JEE Main Number of Attempts
- The JEE Main attempt limit is set for three consecutive years.
- The entrance test will be conducted in two attempts (January and April).
- Students who pass class 10+2 in 2022 and 2023 can appear for the JEE Main 2024 exam.
JEE Main Subjects
- For B.E/B.Tech, applicants should have passed the qualifying exam with Physics, Mathematics, and any one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational Subjects.
- For B.Arch, applicants should have passed the qualifying exam with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- For B.Plan, applicants should have passed the qualifying exam in Mathematics.
JEE Main Qualifying Exams
The qualifying exams for JEE Main 2024 include:
- The final exam (10+2 system) conducted by any recognized Central/State Board.
- The final exam of the 2 years course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
- Any Public School/Board/University examination in India or any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Vocational Examination.
- A Diploma recognized by AICTE or a State board of technical education of a minimum of three years duration.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
- Candidates who completed the class 12 (or equivalent) exam outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) stating that the exam they have passed is equivalent to the class 12 exam.
- In case the class 12 exam is not a public exam, the candidate must have passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) exam earlier.
JEE Main State of Eligibility
Candidates are required to enter the state of eligibility while filling out the application form. The state code of eligibility for JEE Main does not depend on the native place or residence of the candidate. If a student has passed the 12th class exam or equivalent exam from one state but has appeared for the improvement/supplementary exam from a different state, then the state code where they passed the qualifying exam will be taken into account for eligibility. The 12th percentage required for JEE Main 2024 or equivalent exam from NIOS has to choose the state of eligibility based on the state in which the study center is located. For Indian nationals who have passed class 12th or equivalent from Nepal/Bhutan, the state code of eligibility will be given based on the permanent address in India as mentioned in the passport. The state code of eligibility for OCI/PIO passing the class 12 exam in India will be at par with Indian nationals, however, OCI/PIO passing the 12th class exam from a college/institution abroad will be eligible for other state quota seats or All India quota seats in all NITs, IIITs, and Other-CFTIs (not for Home State quota seats).
JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Admissions to NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs
- For NITs/IIITs/GFTIs admission, students should have passed the 12th class with a minimum of 75% criteria in JEE Main 2024 or they should be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12 exam (65% for SC/ST candidates).
- For JEE Main 2024 admission in B.Arch/B.Planning, candidates should have passed a 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board with the required qualification marks for JEE Main, i.e., a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
JEE Main Subject Combinations for Admissions
Candidates must have passed the qualifying exam with the following subject combinations to get admission through JEE Main 2024 into NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs:
- For B.Tech/B.E, Physics and Maths are mandatory subjects along with one of the subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, or Technical Vocational subjects.
- For B.Arch, the subjects required are Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
- For B.Planning, the candidate must have passed the qualifying exam with Mathematics as a subject.
JEE Main Eligibility Criteria for Droppers
- There is no age limit for JEE Main 2024 eligibility criteria for repeaters.
- Candidates must have passed their class 12 exam in 2022, 2023, or 2024.
- Three consecutive attempts are allowed for the JEE Main 2024 examination.
- Students should have secured the minimum required qualification marks for JEE Main.
- Candidates should have taken at least 5 subjects for the class 12 or qualifying exam, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics being mandatory.
