CEED Syllabus 2024 - Overview
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay has officially released the revised syllabus for the Common Entrance Exam for Design (CEED) 2024. The CEED 2024 syllabus consists of two parts - Part A and Part B. Part A will be held online, while Part B will be offline. It is important for candidates to have insight into the CEED syllabus 2024 in order to prepare for the entrance test effectively. The CEED 2024 exam will be conducted on January 21.
The CEED exam is conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. The official website for the exam is ceed.iitb.ac.in. The application for the exam is done online, while the exam itself is conducted in two parts - Part A is online and Part B is offline. The exam is of national level and is for postgraduate students. The duration of the exam is 3 hours.
Revised CEED Syllabus 2024
IIT Bombay has introduced changes in the syllabus and exam structure for the CEED entrance exams. As per the new paper structure of CEED, the question paper will consist of 2 parts - Part A and Part B.
- Part A will be administered through a computer-based test and will consist of three sections such as NAT, MSQ, and MCQ.
- Part B will have two questions: one is about drawing and the other is about design aptitude.
- The question in Part B will be displayed on the computer screen and the answer should be written/drawn only in the answer book provided by the supervisor.
- The duration of Part B is 60 minutes.
CEED Syllabus - Part A

Visualization and spatial reasoning: This refers to the ability to mentally visualize and manipulate 2D shapes and 3D objects, as well as understand their spatial relationships.
Practical and scientific knowledge: This involves having knowledge and understanding of scientific principles and everyday objects.
Observation and design sensitivity: This refers to the capacity to identify hidden properties in everyday life and think critically about them. It also involves attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference, and prediction.
Environment and society: This involves having a general awareness of the environmental, social, and cultural aspects related to design.
Analytical and logical reasoning: This refers to the ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative information.
Language: This refers to proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.
Creativity: This involves the ability to understand and interpret verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs, and symbols.
Art and Design knowledge: This involves being aware of art, artifacts, products, artists, designers, art and design history, and current trends.
Design methods and practices: This refers to having knowledge of different media, materials, production processes, and ergonomics.
CEED 2024 Syllabus - Part B
The syllabus for CEED 2024 Part B includes the following topics:
- Drawing: This involves the ability to draw products, people, or scenes with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
- Design aptitude: This refers to the capability to respond practically and appropriately to problems or situations with ingenuity and empathy.
- Creativity: This involves the capacity to think outside the box and come up with unique and diverse solutions.
- Communication: This refers to the skills to effectively communicate concepts and ideas using text and visuals.
- Problem identification: This involves the capability to understand the user and the context, as well as knowledge of material properties and their appropriate use in design.
CEED Exam Pattern 2024
IIT Bombay has prescribed the exam pattern for CEED 2024, which includes all the parameters of the entrance test. According to the CEED exam pattern 2024, the entrance test will be conducted for a duration of 3 hours. Part A will be a computer-based exam, while Part B will be conducted in pen and paper mode. The maximum marks for the entrance exam are 200.
